Prairie Underground

So we’ve been checking out the new spring collections and getting kind of excited! One that particularly caught our eye…Prairie Underground. Prairie Underground is the collaboration of Camilla Eckersley and Davora Lindner, both attributing their artistic inspiration for the line to their teenage infatuation with the New Romantic music from London, as well as the 80’s East Village art scene in New York. They launched PU in 2004 in Seattle with very little capital and 14 collections later, they are going strong without the help of any outside investors. Durability and functionality with an “unselfconscious sex appeal” are important qualities of each of their pieces. The designers say, “We’re playing an active role in defining a new category of dress, one that crosses the boundaries of active wear and loungewear and redefines day to night dressing. ” The brand uses local sewers, dyehouses, knitters as well as sustainable fabrics like hemp and organic cotton sourced directly from the United States whenever possible. Following an ethical business model is an everyday focus for Prairie Underground. Cheers to 14 successful collections Prairie Underground, although with your inspiration, commitment, and obvious talent, it comes as no surprise. Here are a few of our favorite pieces from the Spring’09 collection:
